HÀ NỘI — Vietnamese Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính will attend the ASEAN-US summit and pay a working visit to the United States and the United Nations (UN) at the invitation of US President Joe Biden, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The special ASEAN-US summit is due to take place in the capital Washington DC on May 12-13 to mark the 45th anniversary of ASEAN-US relations.
This is the second in-person summit between ASEAN and US leaders after the first in Sunnylands (US) in 2016, a summit scheduled for 2020 having been canceled and eventually switched to a virtual format in 2021 due to the global COVID-19 pandemic.
The two sides are expected to review the progress of the partnership over the past 45 years and set development directions for the future, as well as have in-depth discussions on cooperation issues of mutual concern such as trade and investment. , maritime security, post-pandemic recovery, infrastructure, climate change, science and technology.
Vietnam’s prime minister will also lead a high-level delegation to visit the United States and the United Nations from May 11-17, marking his first overseas trip since the country reopened as the situation interior of COVID-19 is under control. and socio-economic recovery is underway.
