UAE publishes 2,207 research papers related to UN SDGs in 2018-2021

AL AIN- Faculty and researchers at the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) have published 2,207 research papers related to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs), according to the Scopus database from 2018 to 2021, of which 966 research articles related to the third objective, focused on good health and quality of life. In the area of ​​clean energy, which falls under the seventh goal, the UAEU published 368 research papers, while in the eleventh goal related to cities and communities, it published 254 papers. In addition, researchers published 198 articles on drinking water and sanitation and 179 articles on industry, innovation and infrastructure.

The UAE was ranked first in the country based on research productivity related to the first, second, third, fourth, eleventh and fifteenth goals during the same period, according to the Scopus database. Provost for Research, said that the UAEU, through its ambitious vision, was able to make contributions to societal research with global impact by studying real challenges in societies and finding practical, technical and economic to societal benefits. .

He added, “Scientific research in the UAE is forward-looking and contributes to empowerment, development and sustainability through knowledge and science, and using innovative research tools that enable to achieve integrative results that would benefit humanity and the environment through the optimal use of natural resources.” The UAEU supports and consolidates the leading role of the country through the results of its scientific research that helps find solutions to global challenges, including those related to the SDGs.

The university has allocated financial resources and infrastructural capacities that guarantee world-class science laboratories to ensure the achievement of high-quality research outputs and help the university become research-intensive with global impact. has also played a positive and vital role in aligning with the 17 UN SDGs.

The university launched the SDG research program last year. Many projects and research activities currently in place support the UAE’s climate neutrality strategy to achieve zero carbon emissions by 2050.
