MECANICSVILLE, MD – Aug. 22, 2022 – (Motor Sports NewsWire) –

  • Chase Sexton will make his debut for Team USA in the home race
  • Hunter and Jett Lawrence will compete for Team Australia
  • The Honda HRC team will provide pit support for international Red Riders

In a ceremony today at the Budds Creek AMA Pro Motocross round, the American Motorcyclist Association confirmed that Chase Sexton will be part of Team USA’s roster for the Motocross of Nations in Michigan next month. Additionally, Sexton’s Honda HRC team mates Hunter and Jett Lawrence will compete for the Australian team.

This will be Sexton’s first appearance in the event as a rider for Team USA. Currently campaigning for his third season in AMA Pro Motocross’ premier 450 class, the Illinois native holds a narrow lead in the championship battle, having picked up three wins overall so far this year (he remains three rounds in the series). Sexton will race a factory CRF450R in the unique and storied international event, in which countries field three-man teams, often competing on different brands. Other Team USA riders for 2022 are Eli Tomac (Sexton’s AMA Pro Motocross title rival) and Justin Cooper.

“I’m super happy to be chosen for the Motocross of Nations,” said Sexton. “It’s been a dream of mine since I was little, watching Ricky Carmichael, Travis Pastrana, James Stewart and the other Team USA riders. It’s such a cool race, something like no other. I went to the Motocross of Nations at RedBud in 2018 and I got to watch, and now I’m excited to race it. It’s going to be special for me, having grown up two hours from RedBud, because that’s my home race. I I’m thrilled about it, and the goal is to go out there and hopefully win.

Highly anticipated by racing fans around the world, the Motocross of Nations will take place at RedBud MX from September 23-25. The United States has hosted the Motocross des Nations four times since its inception in 1947, the most recent being in 2018 (also at RedBud). Although Team USA dominated the event at different times in the 1980s and 2000s, USA hasn’t tasted victory since 2011. However, many consider it to be the USA roster strongest in years.

That said, Team USA will face stiff competition from a number of countries, including Team Australia, who will field an all-Honda lineup that includes Honda HRC team riders Jett and Hunter. Lawrence, the brothers who currently race first and second, respectively, in the battle for the AMA Pro Motocross 250 title. Jett, who won that crown last year, will make his 450 debut at the Motocross of Nations, while Hunter will campaign with a CRF250R. They will be joined on the Australian team by CRF450R-riding Mitch Evans, who normally rides for Team HRC in the MXGP World Championship.

Because the race is on American soil, the Honda HRC team will have three semi-trailers at RedBud to provide pit support not only to Sexton, but also to a number of international Red Riders, including any the Australian team. like Kainosuke Oshiro from the Japanese team and Ruben Fernandez from the Spanish team.

“The Motocross of Nations has always meant a lot to Honda, as evidenced by our proud history of success in the event,” said Brandon Wilson, director of sports and experience at American Honda. “We are delighted not only that Chase Sexton has been selected for Team USA, but that Jett and Hunter Lawrence are competing for Team Australia, underscoring both the competitiveness and international aspect of the Honda HRC team. As American Hondas, we will of course be shooting for Team USA, but as the event will be held on American soil this year, we also relish the opportunity to welcome and host our Honda friends and partners from around the world. We hope for a positive event for each Red Rider on the entry list.

Ahead of the Motocross of Nations, Team USA is hosting a fundraiser for a golf tournament, which will take place Sept. 4 at Redhawk Golf Club in Temecula, Calif. Honda is sponsoring a hole, and attendees will have the opportunity to meet and compete with motocross athletes including Sexton, as well as Honda HRC team manager Lars Lindstrom and crew chief Grant Hutcheson.
