Sun Country announced seven new routes from Minneapolis on Tuesday, expanding its network to more than 100 routes to 80 cities in the United States, Mexico, Central America, Canada and the Caribbean. “We are delighted to provide travelers with affordable access to exciting new destinations, including some of the most beautiful coastal cities on the East Coast, the Great Lakes and Canada,” said Grant Whitney, Chief Revenue Officer, Sun Country Airlines. . âWe look forward to welcoming guests on board to take advantage of our many amenities such as complimentary inflight entertainment, complimentary soft drink service and comfortable reclining seats with built-in power en route to their next big vacation. “
The airline also announced that it will continue non-stop service from Minneapolis to Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport, Asheville Regional Airport, Savannah / Hilton Head International Airport and to General Mitchell International Airport in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Sun Country has also extended its flight schedule to early September 2022, offering more than 70 destinations to choose from.
Sun Country is a super low cost carrier, and unlike Spirit and Frontier, offers onboard amenities like free sodas, tea and coffee, free movies streamed on personal devices, and reclining seats. The carrier prides itself on its flexible business model which extends its services beyond commercial operations, including charter activities and a freight partnership with Amazon.
Sun Country signed an agreement to carry cargo under the Amazon Air brand just months before COVID-19 devastated the airline industry. The airline has a dedicated cargo fleet of Boeing 737-800s, which is rare for US carriers. Alaska Airlines is the only other carrier in the country to have a separate fleet of cargo planes.
The Minnesota-based airline began flying on behalf of Amazon in May 2020, and the operation has helped it stay afloat during the pandemic. However, with increased passenger demand, combined with the company’s charter and freight business, Sun Country is poised to continue its business expansion.
