Gildan is pleased to announce that the company has signed The Gender Equality Seal, a United Nations Development Program (UNDP) coordinated and implemented nationally by the Dominican Republic’s Ministry of Women. This makes Gildan the first multinational manufacturing company in the Dominican Republic’s free zone to make this commitment.

The Gender Equality Label is an innovative program that engages the private sector to achieve excellent standards to promote gender equality and empower women. It is a tool for businesses to come together and contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (in particular, SDGs 5, 8, 10 and 17) by reducing gender gaps, simultaneously promoting equality gender and competitiveness, for an equitable and inclusive environment. and sustainable growth.

Gildan has already made strides in diversity, equity and inclusion (DCI) within the company, through its various initiatives around the world. In the Dominican Republic in particular, 60% of Gildan’s leadership positions are already held by women, and Gildan has made substantial investments in community projects to enable women in the region to pursue financial self-sufficiency in order to increase their independence and mitigate the risks of domestic violence, a widespread problem in the country.
