The European Commission, the executive branch of the European Union (EU), has updated its list of high-risk countries, from which players should be subject to stricter customer checks by gambling operators.

Based on Article 9 of Directive (EU) 2015/849, the Commission identifies any high-risk third country that has strategic deficiencies in its anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing regime.

As such, operators based in the EU who offer services to these countries or deal with players in these countries are required to carry out enhanced due diligence checks.

The list was first published in July 2016 and has been updated several times as additional countries of concern are identified and flagged by the Commission.

The latest countries to be added to this list – in an update published last month – include Burkina Faso, the Cayman Islands, Haiti, Jordan, Malo, Morocco, Myanmar, the Philippines, Senegal and Sudan from South.

Other countries on the list are Afghanistan, Barbados, Cambodia, Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Iran, Jamaica, Myanmar, Nicaragua, Pakistan, Panama, Syria, Trinidad and -Tobago, Uganda, Vanuatu, Yemen and Zimbabwe.

Countries are only added to the list if they meet a series of criteria set by the Commission, which include a number of factors defined by the Financial Action Task Force.

The Commission then identifies the risk profile and level of threat to which the country is exposed and assesses the legal framework and its effective application in eight key areas.

This includes country analysis on the criminalization of money laundering and countering the financing of terrorism; customer due diligence, record keeping and reporting of suspicious transactions in the financial sector; and the same requirements in the non-financial sector.

The Commission also considers the existence of dissuasive, proportionate and effective penalties in the event of infringements; the powers and procedures of the competent authorities and

their practice of international cooperation; the availability and exchange of information on the beneficial owners of legal persons and legal arrangements, and the implementation of targeted financial sanctions.

March 20, 2022 – The Gallup Institute is conducting research and American scientists have published their list of “the happiest countries”, but how does the Republic of Croatia rank compared to others?

As Poslovny Dnevnik written, the report, which examined the effects of the global coronavirus pandemic and the unprecedented crisis it has caused over the past two years on general human well-being, is compiled annually by American scientists on the based on Gallup Institute research.

According to this report, the happiest country, Finland, is closely followed by Denmark, Iceland, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Sweden, Norway, Israel and then a very distant country – New Zealand.

When it comes to Croatia and immediate neighboring countries, we are in 47th place, neighboring Slovenia is in 22nd place and Serbia in 43rd place, while Bosnia and Herzegovina is in an unenviable 67th place. Austria took an impressive 11th place, Germany came in 14th, Canada took 15th and the United States came in 16th.

At the bottom of the list of more than 150 countries studied by the Gallup Institute are Afghanistan, Lebanon and Venezuela. The European countries of Serbia, Bulgaria and Romania, on the other hand, have made the most progress.

The report is compiled by the aforementioned institute and is also based on data covering the last three years.

The American scientists who pored over the research and compiled the list noticed a significant increase in so-called acts of kindness during the coronavirus pandemic. “Helping others, volunteering and giving in 2021 increased sharply in all regions of the world, reaching levels almost 25% higher than before the pandemic,” they said.

“This surge of benevolence, which has been particularly important in helping others, provides strong evidence that people respond to help others in need, they want to create more happiness for those recipients, be good examples for others and live a better life for themselves,” the report said.

The Ukrainian President continued: “We will punish all those who have committed atrocities in this war. On our land. We will find every b*stard. Who shot at our cities, our people. Who bombarded our land. Who launched rockets. Who gave the order and pressed ”start”.

‘There will be no quiet place on this Earth for you. Except for the grave.

Kiev rejected Russia's offer to

Kiev has rejected Russia’s offer of “humanitarian corridors” to evacuate civilians after it emerged that several were leading into Russian territory or its close ally Belarus (top). Red Cross workers in Mariupol also said one of the routes identified by Russia for civilians to leave the town was covered in landmines.

Hundreds of civilians are today fleeing the town of Irpin, west of Kyiv, after coming under heavy attack by Russian forces in recent days as Putin's men attempt to encircle the capital.

Hundreds of civilians are today fleeing the town of Irpin, west of Kyiv, after coming under heavy attack by Russian forces in recent days as Putin’s men attempt to encircle the capital.

The stern warning comes after gruesome footage showed four members of the same family, including two children, lying motionless on a pavement next to their suitcases after trying to flee Irpin, a town 20km from Kiev, on Sunday.

Footage has emerged of grieving Ukrainian parents of an 18-month-old boy crying over their son’s corpse after the toddler was killed by Russian shelling in the southern city of Mariupol.

The toddler’s death came after Russian forces shelled Ukraine’s second city just minutes after an agreed ceasefire on Saturday.

Today Kiev rejected Moscow’s offer to open “humanitarian corridors” when it emerged that some of the roads led directly into its territory.

Hundreds of civilians were pictured fleeing the town of Irpin, west of Kyiv, which has been the scene of heavy Russian shelling in recent days – helped across a partially destroyed bridge by members of the Ukrainian army who blew it up. days earlier to slow the Russian advance.

During a third round of peace talks between Russia and Ukraine on Monday, Russia revealed its demands.

Moscow is asking Ukraine to cease all military action, to change its constitution to enshrine neutrality so that it cannot join the EU or NATO, to recognize Crimea as Russian territory and to recognize the breakaway republics of Donetsk and Lugansk as independent territories.

This was the most explicit Russian statement to date regarding the conditions it wishes to impose on Ukraine to end what it calls its “special military operation” in Ukraine, which is now in its final stages. 12th day and resulted in the deaths of hundreds of civilians.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky meanwhile dismissed Moscow’s claims that Ukraine must recognize the independence of the two eastern territories as Putin’s “ultimatums”.

The invasion launched on February 24 caused thousands of civilian and military deaths, sparked Europe’s worst refugee crisis since World War II and sparked outrage around the world.

Russia has long demanded that Ukraine agree to exclude NATO membership. In 2019, then Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko signed a constitutional amendment committing the country to strive for NATO and EU membership.

Ireland has been named to a Russian government list of “hostile countries and territories” following EU sanctions.

he list includes the United States, the 27 EU states, the United Kingdom, Ukraine and many other countries, including Switzerland, Norway, Japan, South Korea, Australia, Singapore and Taiwan.

According to Russia’s state-run TASS news agency, the countries are accused of “hostile actions against Russia, its companies and its citizens”.

The Kremlin approved the list on Monday. This means that foreign creditors from countries on the list can now be paid in rubles for all debts owed to them by Russian citizens, companies, regions or the state itself.

Moscow this weekend introduced a decree allowing the Russian state and companies to pay foreign creditors in rubles after international sanctions cut off Russian banks, oligarchs, politicians and the central bank from global payment systems.

The decree applies to payments over 10 million rubles per month, TASS said.

The ruble fell to a new low against the dollar on Monday in non-Russian markets, as Moscow stock exchanges were closed for trading due to a public holiday.

The ruble weakened to 133.5 to the dollar after closing at 121.037 on Friday, according to data from trade news firm Refinitiv.

The ruble has lost more than 40% of its value against the dollar since the start of the year, with losses accelerating after the Russian invasion of Ukraine on February 24.

It is becoming more and more difficult to exchange the ruble after several rounds of sanctions.
